Here is all about the Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church
The Methodist Church of Singapore (MCS) is Singapore’s mother church for Methodists. The church has 46 congregations around the island and over 42,000 members, making it Singapore’s largest Protestant denomination. The Rev. Dr. Gordon Wong is the current bishop and leader of the church. In the 12th session of the General Conference on September 7, 2020.
To be a Methodist in Ang Mo Kio Chinese Methodist Church is to pursue Christian completeness in love and purity by God’s grace. The public worship of God, ministry of the Word, communion, family and solitary prayer, fasting or abstinence, and class meetings are all ways of grace for us to develop in pure love. Our actions of godliness and works of kindness are the fruits of our salvation.
HISTORY:
The Ang Mo Kio Chinese Methodist Church began as a mustard seed. The Ang Mo Kio Pioneer Work Committee, led by the late Rev. Wong Hoon Hee, started it all in January 1977. Reverend Wong was the Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church’s first Pastor-in-Charge (PIC). Sunday services were at 24 Mayflower Rise, a rented row home, with an average attendance of roughly 35 persons. At 5:00 p.m., there was just one service. It was established as a local church with 49 members in two years. It occurred on October 1, 1978, and the Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church was born.
Growing pains accompanied the birth. Following concerns, the HDB ordered religious activities on the 24th Mayflower Rise to get halted in September 1979. A local business was from an alternate worship venue by God’s goodness. We were permitted to return to the 24 Mayflower Rise after roughly a year.
The Lord had already arranged a more permanent home for us at this point. Our present site is promoted effectively by the Singapore Methodist Church. We had our first Sunday service in the new sanctuary on Easter, April 5, 1981.
Pastor Stanley Chua presented his final sermon as senior pastor at our church on July 27, 2014, before departing for the United States to study. Pastor Melvin Huang served as acting minister from August 2014 till his retirement as a Methodist pastor on December 31, 2018. As of 2019, Pastor Anthony Lee has been named Pastor-in-Charge of AMKMC.
