Bishan Bus Interchange
What to Know About Bishan Bus Interchange
A bus interchange serving Singapore’s Bishan New Town is called Bishan Bus Interchange. It connects to the Bishan MRT Station, the Junction 8 Shopping Center, the Bishan Public Library, the Bishan Community Center, and the CPF Bishan Building at Bishan Street 13. The Bishan Bus Interchange is just adjacent to a Circle Line entrance.
The opening day for Bishan Bus Interchange was April 30, 1989. The temporary bus station that had served the new community of Bishan since December 1985 gets replaced with this one, which cost SGD$5.5 million to construct. It was one of the earliest bus interchanges created with an MRT station in mind. Passengers can easily switch between bus routes at this interchange and the Bishan MRT station.
The Bishan Bus Interchange’s innovative design was even referred to in The New Paper as “a piece of Disneyland in Bishan.” Around the bus parking area, the junction has a castle-like design. A café and a parking lot get located above the interchange. Along with this junction, a playground for kids and an adjacent building with a coffee shop (which previously housed a McDonald’s branch) get built. Physical connections connect Bishan Bus Interchange to Junction 8 and the Bishan MRT station.
