The Bukit Merah Bus Interchange is a bus interchange situated in the Bukit Merah Town Centre, near Bukit Merah Central, in Bukit Merah, Singapore. The interchange provides access to the business structures in Bukit Merah Central and the adjoining residential estates Telok Blangah and Bukit Purmei. It is the only bus interchange in Singapore without a direct connection to an MRT station. Nevertheless, several routes connect commuters from the station to surrounding MRT stations. The Bukit Merah Bus Interchange is connected to Tiong Bahru by Services 5, 16, and 851, Redhill by Services 132, and Telok Blangah by Services 176.

Brief History:

On February 14, 1981, Bukit Merah Bus Interchange opened its doors to the Bukit Merah estate. Feeder bus services connect it with the residential communities at Telok Blangah and Bukit Purmei, located at Bukit Merah Central. A driver’s canteen gets added to the building’s second floor and an overhead bridge over Bukit Merah Central sometime after it opened (possibly in the 1990s or 2000s). Little has changed in the interchange’s design since it opened more than 30 years ago.

All bus routes get divided into six route packages under the new bus contracting model, with 167 falling under Sembawang-Yishun, 176 falling under Choa Chu Kang-Bukit Panjang, 851 falling under Seletar, 132 and 153 falling under Sengkang-Hougang, 139 falling under Bishan-Toa Payoh, and the remainder falling under Bukit Merah Bus Packages.
