Everything you know about the Bukit Panjang Primary School

As the Union Jack was hoisted to the strains of ‘God Save the Queen,’ the first principal, Mrs. Downe, and her three-person staff stood at attention. The first sixty students of the school stood behind them, confronting a new school structure made of bricks and durable teak wood. Bukit Panjang Primary School was one of the few elementary schools in Singapore’s northern reaches. Mrs. Downe and her colleagues had to go across Bukit Panjang’s hamlet and district to persuade parents to send their children to school. They were able to enroll the first sixty students after great work and with the help of Mr. Goh Tong Liang, a famous citizen.

Curriculum:

English, math, science, mother tongue languages, humanities, and the arts get included in the MOE curriculum PE, knowledge skills, and character and citizenship education. Students in Primary 1–6 prepare for the Bukit Panjang Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), which takes place after Primary 6. Students can participate in a variety of co-curricular activities after school.

Chinese, Malay, and Tamil are the mother tongues offered, and the school supplements the MOE curriculum with activities including reading marathons and cultural camps. A sports leaders’ program, an annual adventure, and leadership camp, and a CHAMPs weight control program are among the school’s notable efforts. There are several CCAs to choose from, and the school includes a Student Care Center that provides food, homework supervision, games, and tuition after school.
