Chip Eng Seng Corporation Ltd (the “Group”), a multinational conglomerate with businesses in construction, civil infrastructure, precast technology, property development and investment, hospitality, and education, is listed on the Mainboard of Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (“SGX-ST”).
Mr Lim Tiam Seng founded the Group in the 1960s as a landed property building subcontractor. When the Group was appointed as the main contractor for its first HDB (Housing Development Board) project in 1982, it made history. It has grown steadily over the years, diversifying into the construction of private condominium and executive condominium projects, as well as precast fabrication.
The Group scaled up the property value chain to undertake property development and investment in the 1990s, leveraging its accumulated experience and know-how. Shophouses, residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use development projects are among the company’s current property development and investment projects. In 2015, the Group entered the hospitality industry, and in 2018, it entered the education sector, in order to diversify its business. To complement its construction business, the Group began its civil infrastructure business in 2019 with the acquisition of an established design and build construction service provider. The Group has operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, and the Maldives at the moment.
On all fronts, the Group strives for excellence and has received several accolades for worker safety and health, construction quality, environmental protection and graciousness, productivity and innovation, and corporate transparency.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE WORKPLACE
Chip Eng Seng conducts business in an ethical manner, which means we consider the social, economic, and environmental consequences of our actions. Our goal to create a sustainable living environment and enhance the quality of life for our current and future generations is a primary motivation for the Group’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Our CSR activities have also helped our employees, customers, and beneficiaries form stronger bonds.
We have been recognized by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore’s CONQUAS (Construction Quality Assessment System) for rigorous compliance in workmanship in line with their requirements over the previous decade, and have in fact achieved better results than the national average. In addition, we promote ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 as environmental management standards.
Chip Eng Seng has developed a “Green and Gracious” strategy to educate our construction staff on working conscientiously with a view to reducing any bad influence on the environment related with their duties at hand, in order to instill in them a strong understanding of sustainable living. We also assess all of our projects on a regular basis, from the building designs to the materials and technology employed, with the goal of implementing more ecologically friendly methods.
In 2019, the Group collaborated with our community partners to organize and/or engage in activities and programs with a focus on environmental, cultural arts, educational, and healthcare organizations in Singapore. We contributed to the NUS School of Design & Environment Development Fund, Ren Ci Hospital, Compassion Fund Ltd, PAP Community Golf Tournament, People’s Association Community Club Building Fund, Singapore Scout Association, RHT Rajan Menon Foundation, and Braddell Heights CCC Community Development Welfare Fund through financial sponsorship of various golf tournaments and events.
We were also able to contribute to the Roxy Foundation / Community Foundation of Singapore Sharing and Caring for Families 2019, Montfort Care, Singapore Symphony Group, and SingHealth Fund – Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) Fund through our participation in or financial sponsorship of various functions. We also co-sponsored a Chinese New Year celebration meal for the older persons of Jalan Kukoh with the Singapore Organisation of Seamen (SOS) and Seacare Co-operative Ltd.
We teamed with Rainbow Centre to organize a work experience program at Park Hotel Alexandra for teenagers aged 17 and above to impart some fundamental skills and information to them, in addition to giving financial assistance.
Our staff volunteers supported autism organizations such as the Rainbow Centre in 2019 by participating in activities aimed at raising autism awareness in the community.
During the Group’s corporate retreat in Siem Reap, 120 of its employees paid visits to several of the city’s underprivileged families, with our employees using the opportunity to donate essential items to them, including pre-loved clothing donated by our employees during a donation drive leading up to corporate retreat.
Chip Eng Seng is a firm believer in giving back. This is why we provide bursaries to eligible students who need financial assistance on a yearly basis.
