About The Services Of Church Of Our Lady Queen Of Peace

As Catholics who have got baptised, charged with carrying the light of Christ and carrying on His work of evangelization for everyone to become aware of God’s compassion for His People and experience His mercy and love. The core of Archbishop William Goh’s vision for a thriving, missionary, and evangelistic Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace.

It gets based on many tenets:

Since we have personally experienced Jesus in our lives, we have a close relationship with Him. Means we get shaped in mind and spirit. That we are a close-knit group of – Christians cooperate and encourage one another as we seek to further God’s kingdom.

Because of this, the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace – aim is to promote a community centred on Christ.

We want to do this by:

  • To arouse in each parishioner a desire for an intimate relationship with Jesus.
  • Proclaiming Jesus to people who do not know Him and giving testimony to Him.
  • Building a culture of love for Jesus in the parish community via a community.

Many parishioners were transferred to the suburbs in 1940 due to overpopulation in downtown Singapore. A Church needed to get established as Catholics became more numerous in the East.

Plans for the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace got put on hold. With the start of the Japanese Occupation and the post-war rehabilitation. The Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace has finally founded on 4 April 1954. Thanks to Father Dupoirieux’s tenacity and the fervent prayers of many believers.

Since that time, 26 priests have served in our parish. At the moment, our congregation gets led by Rev. Father Timothy Yeo, parish priest, and Rev. Father Francis Lee, assistant parish priest.

Several vocations to the priesthood and religious orders have also bestowed upon us throughout the years. These include Rev. Father Adrian Yeo, Father Ignatius Yeo, and Rev.

We are a close-knit group of Christians who cooperate and encourage one another as we seek to further God’s kingdom. The Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace’s parish priest with the longest tenure was Father Carlo Ly. He worked for the parish for 34 years until retiring in 2001.

Services

In Singapore in 1988, the Queen of Peace Church, which he oversaw, was the first to give Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) in Mandarin. Along with translating the Parish Renewal Experience curriculum into Mandarin for his parish, Father Ly founded the first Mandarin-speaking Catholic charismatic prayer group in the dio-cese.

The Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace is located on Sandy Lane, upstream of Tanjong Katong Road. Queen of Peace is the numerous monikers bestowed upon the Blessed Virgin Mary.

As a result, Catholics from the south moved to the East and northeast, away from the city centre. Under the post-Independence regime, this human mobility would persist and spread further.

Most of the population had been relocated east of the city by the early 1940s. There was a sizable Catholic population among them. A parish’s construction got put into motion.
