Things to Know About the Church of Our Saviour in Singapore

Church of Our Saviour, also known as COOS, is a megachurch with an average weekly attendance of about 4,500 people. It gets founded in Queenstown, Singapore, in the 1950s as a mission along Alexandra Road. Although COOS is a parish of the traditional Anglican church, it is renowned for its charismatic activities like speaking in tongues, faith healing, and deliverance.

Choices, a program founded by Sy Rogers of Exodus International in 1991 to provide Christian conversion therapy, is a well-known ex-gay ministry at the church. Asserting that the feminist organization was concealing and propagating a “pro-gay agenda,” a group of women connected to the church allegedly organized the Association of Women for Action and Research in 2009. At an Extraordinary General Meeting, it gets finally decided to fire them. The Church of Our Saviour is under Senior Pastor Daniel Wee’s leadership.

The Building

The former Venus Theatre is now home to the Church of Our Saviour (COOS), which has a site size of 3562 square meters along Margaret Drive.

A neighboring 4-story expansion with a roof terrace and four levels of basement parking gets proposed to increase the allowable plot ratio to 1.6. Three new amenities include Multi-Purpose Hall with an adjacent roof terrace at the fourth story, COOS Office at the third story, and Sky Terrace with rich nature surrounding the prayer rooms at the second story.

The first-floor triple-volume concourse, left open for churchgoers to interact before and after services and where refreshments get served outside the main worship auditorium, enables visual continuity between all floors. Church members can use the Upper Roof Terrace as an additional outdoor space for meetings.

About Choices Program

Church of Our Saviour started the program Choices in 1991 to help persons “who battle homosexuality regain their divinely intended sexual identity. Clients get the tools they need to take charge of preserving their moral and interpersonal integrity by overcoming same-sex urges. ” Choices provides a safe space for self-expression, self-discovery, growth, and transformation to accomplish its objectives; it is essentially a religiously based sexual orientation conversion therapy. To “find life outside the control of homosexuality ” also emphasizes the importance of having a supportive environment and network.
