Church of the Transfiguration
Information About Church of the Transfiguration
The church celebrates St. Joseph, the labourer, on May 1. The connection is particularly poignant because the parish’s initial members were coolies and workers from the rubber, gambier, and pepper plantations. Fr. Anatole Mauduit established a chapel as a jungle mission station in 1846 to serve the Christian population in Kranji’s interior and spare them the arduous journey into town to attend Mass. The Church of the Transfiguration parish community relocated to its current location in 1853, migrating from Kranji to Bukit Timah for a new beginning to escape the hardships of secret society harassment and persecution, a loss in agricultural productivity, and the constant threat of man-eating tigers.
History
The 32nd and the final Catholic church to built in Singapore is the Church of the Transfiguration (COTT) in Punggol. In 2017, on Maundy Thursday, it held its inaugural Mass for the approximately 15,000 Catholics it serves. Fr. Joachim Chang was charged with building the new church, travelled to every parish in the archdiocese with volunteers to help fund the $60 million believed to be required. Local Catholics, migrant labourers, foreigners, and adherents of other religions made financial contributions to pay for the church’s construction.
The Church of the Transfiguration design idea based on the biblical scene of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor 3 closest disciples—Peter, James, and John—were shown His divinity in miraculous and supernatural light.

Either on Sunday or Wednesday, religious education classes for kids are obligatory.

The recipients of this sacrament strengthened in Christian lives and sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation. The Sacrament of Baptism is finishing the Sacrament of Confirmation. Depending on your age, you can receive Confirmation at Catechetical Program or Adult Confirmation (jointly with Easter Baptism).
Architecture
The Transfiguration, which occurred on Mount Tabor in Israel, is central to the church’s architectural theme. This five-story building’s overall massing completed with a texture resembles sandstone and has chamfers with a 45-degree representing the mountain and emitting a sense of permanence. Additionally, the church’s foundation includes a genuine stone from Mount Tabor.
Tall vertical windows that wrap around the building and one feature elevation with white aluminium perforated motifs emphasise and portray the notion of light. The modular windows that encircle the building, whether louvred, pivoting, or fixed, give the inside a monastic feel.
