Cairnhill, the Epicentre of District 9:
The Cairnhill neighborhood is in the heart of a central position known as the epicenter of District 9 Singapore due to its proximity to Ngee Ann City, Somerset, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, and Newton. The region is densely packed with conference rooms, event halls, and hotel bars, making it an excellent choice for business travelers. The Central Expressway highway entry and exit are also located in this region, providing access from the city center to the northern areas of the island, such as Toa Payoh, Bishan, and Ang Mo Kio, as well as other Expressways such as Seletar and Tampines Expressway. However, the proximity to highway entrances/exits may cause traffic congestion at times, so if you want to reside in this area, be prepared to plan ahead of time to avoid delays.
Orchard Road, a major tourist destination and the island’s most prominent commercial district, had a $40 million makeover in 2009. Flooding occurred in the early 1900s, but the Stamford Canal was deepened and widened to alleviate the problem. The 1970s were a golden period for the area around Orchard Road, with pioneering buildings such as Plaza Singapura, C.K. Tangs, and the Mandarin Hotel built. Orchard Road became a lively one-way route in 1974, starting at Orange Grove Road and Tanglin Road and ending at the intersection of Prinsep Roadway and Bras Basah Road.
