The Eastpoint Mall is located in Simei, Singapore, not far from the Simei MRT station. It used to be well-known for its extensive array of educational and enrichment facilities and its once-dominant pet store in Asia. The shopping centre gets owned by NTUC Income and managed by Frasers Property. Far East Organization created Eastpoint Mall finished in November 1996 and officially opened in January 1997 by Mr Lim Hng Kiang, the then-minister of national development. NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Pte Ltd purchased the property in 1998.
Due to poor attendance, Studio City Cinemas failed in 1999, and Golden Village took its place. The Pet Safari, a nearby pet store, has taken the position of the wet market. After declaring bankruptcy, Oriental Emporium vacated the location, and Best Denki moved in. The mall’s reputation began to decline in the early 2000s despite a modest renovation due to competition from the other malls in the city and Tampines. As a result, Golden Village shut down at the beginning of 2002, and several tutoring and enrichment facilities took their place. At the same time, the rooftop children’s pool gets locked up.
