The mall’s reputation began to decline in the early 2000s despite a modest renovation due to competition from the other malls in the city and Tampines. As a result, Golden Village shut down at the beginning of 2002, and several tutoring and enrichment facilities took their place. At the same time, the rooftop children’s pool gets locked up.
