History
In 1928, a handful of Christians met to form Elim Church (Singapore) or Elim Church Assembly of God. Mrs. Edith Jackson and Rev. Cecil Jackson served as its pastors.
When the Jacksons get succeeded by Rev. and Mrs. Lawrence McKinney in 1937, they started a construction project to give the church a more permanent home. An estate at 1079 Serangoon Road gets acquired after months of prayer. It was a cottage with a sizable compound and many trees around it. Because it made him think of the Israelites when they arrived in Elim following their flight from Egypt, Rev. McKinney gave it the name Elim Church Assembly of God. On Friday, October 20, 1939, a service gets held to dedicate the new church. The church kept expanding until the Second World War (1942–1955) broke out. Lay leaders get chosen to run the church during the Japanese occupation of Singapore. They getYeo Bock Hoe, Victor Manny, Lye Eng Hong, and Arthur P. Abeysekera.
Following the war, the church gets overseen by the Rev. Alfred A. McGrew (1949–1953), the Rev. R.B. and Mrs. Avalone Cavaness (1954–1966), the Revs. David and Betty Baker (1968–1969), Fred and Rita Abeysekera (1969–1974), Cresmerio and Mrs. Norma Fernandez (1976–1987), and the Revs. Dr. Fred and Margaret Seaward (19 Rev.
