The Esplanade Park playground is a unique public children’s playground in the city. A playground at Bras Basah, another at the Marina Bay City Gallery, and the Far East Organization Children’s Garden at Gardens by the Bay are just a few of the close options.

The Esplanade Park playground restores the Civic District’s sense of playfulness. It complements family-friendly activities like the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Car-Free Sundays, which are on the last Sunday of each month in the Civic District. The Esplanade Park Playground is near the Victoria Theatre, Concert Hall, and the Esplanade Theatres.

Esplanade Park — A Memorable Location

Aside from the playground, Esplanade Park has long served as a memorial to primary events in the city’s history. The beautiful Tan Kim Seng Fountain gets moved to the area in 1882 (we are perhaps more familiar with Kim Seng Road, named after him). The Cenotaph is a Memorial to World War I servicemen who died in battle. It gets first presented in 1922 and later enlarged to honor those who died during World War II.

On the occasion of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, the promenade facing the water was renamed Queen Elizabeth Walk on the 10th anniversary of the war hero’s death, and the Lim Bo Seng Memorial gets unveiled nearby.

These features Esplanade Park’s majestic appearance, complementing the Civic District and buildings like the Asian Civilisations Museum, Victoria Concert and Memorial Hall, and National Gallery Singapore.
