Primary School

River Valley Primary School is an Independent Public School serving the community of Burekup. We are a small country school, with country values, in the urban area of Bunbury. River Valley Primary School is located 20 km north of Bunbury and caters to 70 students.

St. Margaret`s Primary School is the oldest girls’ school in Singapore and the Far East. It was founded in 1842 by Mrs. Maria Dyer, a missionary of the London Missionary Society. She was on her way to China in 1841 and while in Singapore, she saw a pitiful group of young Chinese girls on display for sale in the streets.

Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) is one of the seven units in the ACS Family of Schools. The Anglo-Chinese School was founded on March 1, 1886, by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham in a shophouse at 70 Amoy Street. Adopting a bilingual approach to education, the boys learned English in the morning and Chinese in the afternoon. Although the school started with only 13 students, its high quality of education made it popular and respected in the local community. Thus, to cater to the rapidly increasing student population, the school moved, in 1887, to larger premises at Coleman Street. To solve staffing problems, the principal, Rev Nagle, encouraged the brighter students to stay on in the school to work as teachers. This form of continuity soon developed loyalty amongst the old students. In the process, the school’s identity and spirit grew stronger.

Alexandra Primary School focus on core values of Respect, Responsibility, and is Ready to Learn. We are also deepening our understanding of how we can live and breathe these values through our Maori interpretations of Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, and Whakatau te wairua. Alexandra Primary School is a full primary school.

Secondary School

Outram Secondary School As the numbers in the school at Cross Street grew, there was a plan to establish a training school to meet demands. But for some unknown reasons, this plan did not materialize. A new school, Outram Road School, built at Outram Road, was formally opened by the Governor of Singapore, Sir John Anderson on 26th February 1906. By Gazette notification in 1939 the word “Road” was deleted and the school was known as Outram School.

Gan Eng Seng School in 1885, a school was founded in some shophouses in Tanjong Pagar by Mr Gan Eng Seng to offer free education to the children of poor parents in the vicinity. It was called the Anglo-Chinese Free School.

No school perhaps has had a more distinguished array of personalities connected with it than Gan Eng Seng School. Before it became a government school, it had on its Board of Trustees illustrious names as Tan Keong Saik, Ho Yang Peng, Wee Theam Tew, Lee Cheng Yan, Chan Sze Jin, Wee Swee Teow, Song Ong Siang, and Dr. Lim Boon Keng.

When in 1889, the Government gave the school a site in Telok Ayer Street for a new building, it was Mr. Gan Eng Seng who put up the building. On 4 April 1893, the new building was officially opened by the Governor, Sir Cecil Clementi Smith.

English and Chinese were taught at Gan Eng Seng School until the founder’s death when it became a purely English School. Then, owing to financial difficulties, it no longer functioned as a free school and for some time fees were charged.

In 1937, the Board of Trustees, owing to financial difficulties, was not in a position to carry out major and urgent repairs to the school premises. Therefore, in the interest of the school, Gan Eng Seng School became a Government school in 1938.

In 1939, the construction of the new Gan Eng Seng School Building at Anson Road could not begin as the shadow of war soon halted developments of any kind. Alternative accommodation was hard to find, but eventually, the Education Department decided to house the school temporarily in the Sepoy Lines Malay School in Park Road.

When the school re-opened on 8 September 1941, teachers and pupils settled down to their normal duties, quite unaware of the impending clouds of World War II. On 5 December 1941, the school broke up for the Christmas vacation, but was destined not to meet again until four and a half years later. Soon after the outbreak of the war with Japan, the Sepoy Lines Malay School was requisitioned.

When the Japanese Occupation ended in 1945, attempts to resuscitate the school immediately were not successful. Many of the old members of the staff were assigned to other schools which were fortunate enough to be able to re-open.

When the Outram School building was derequisitioned, it was found possible to accommodate Gan Eng Seng School in the afternoon session. On 13 May 1946, Gan Eng Seng School was finally re-opened, and the teachers who had been sent to Outram School returned to their own Schools.

Finally, in May 1947, the school succeeded in getting the Japanese School building in Waterloo Street where it functioned until it shifted to Anson Road in 1951.

In 1986, Gan Eng Seng School moved to a new site at Raeburn Park. The school’s founding site at Telok Ayer Street was designated as a national historical site by the National Heritage Board in 1997.

In 2001, the school relocated to its present site at 1 Henderson Road. Recent years have seen it launch its inaugural Founders’ Day (2012) and the GESSOSA Student Development Fund (2015). It even made the Singapore Book of Records in 2019 by completing 102,000 squats in 5 minutes, and was chosen as one of only 27 pilot schools to undergo the Full Subject Based Banding (FSBB) trial in 2020.

Junior College

Catholic Junior College is a junior college in Singapore, offering a two-year course for pre-university students leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level examination. Founded in 1975, Catholic Junior College was the third junior college to be established in Singapore.

Polytechnic

Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia was set up in Singapore in 2002, under the Singapore government’s Global Schoolhouse Initiative. TUM Asia is an institute for research and education situated in Singapore, as the Asian campus of the Technical University of Munich.

TUM Asia is registered in Singapore as an Institute of Higher Learning (IHL). CPE Registration Number: 200105229R / Registration Period: 13.06.2017 – 12.06.2023.

Since 2002, TUM Asia has been running joint Master Programmes conferred by TUM, with NTU and NUS, such as MSc in Industrial Chemistry; MSc in Integrated Circuit Design; MSc in Green Electronics; MSc in Aerospace Engineering; an MSc in Rail, Transport, and Logistics. Lecturers and professors hail from as far as Germany and their wealth of knowledge from various fields provides a spectrum of experience for the students to glean from.

TUM Asia offered the first TUM Bachelor program in 2010 in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore’s Fifth University. In 2020, TUM and SIT further established their partnership by launching 2 joint Bachelor’s degree programs, the Bachelor in Chemical Engineering (Hons) and the Bachelor in Electronics and Data Engineering (Hons).

To meet the changing needs of the economy, TUM Asia also launched a new series of executive education courses to deliver leading-edge curricula for the upskilling of industry workforces. By 2020, more than 1,800 graduands have come through the doors of TUM Asia and now ply their trades in top research institutes and companies across the globe.

University

International School

Insworld Institute @ North Bridge Centre is a private school in Singapore that provides local and international students with a British-based secondary education. Camelot River Valley Preschool was established in 2017, Camelot River Valley preschool aims to offer a high-quality education experience by creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children to develop their skills, confidence, and independence.

Columbia Junior Academy our parent company, was first established in 1996. Our first centre is located at Choa Chu Kang Central. We provide student care services to the residents there. In 1997, we established another centre in Jurong East to provide daily playgroup classes. In 1998, with the increase in student enrolment for preschoolers, we started our search for a larger premise which will enable us to provide a full-fledged preschool programme which promises to be more comprehensive and all-rounded.
