Jurong East Bus Interchange
Guide To Know More About Jurong East Bus Interchange
A temporary bus interchange serving Jurong East, the Relocated Jurong East Bus Interchange is situated at Jurong East Central. Jurong East Bus Interchange connects to numerous public services as part of the Jurong Regional Centre, including Jurong East MRT Station, JCube, Jurong Regional Library, Westgate, JEM, and Jurong Community Hospital/Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Despite LTA having eliminated the term “temporary,” the relocated interchange, which opened on December 6, 2020, replaces the first Jurong East Temporary Bus Interchange (2011–2020), which was situated next to Jurong East MRT station. To make room for the Jurong Region Line station and a potential Integrated Transport System, the first interim interchange site, which operated for nine years, would be destroyed.
The original bus interchange building was constructed on June 30, 1985, on Jurong Gateway Road, across from the Jurong CPF office and west of the current MRT station. The bus services bus interchange diverted to this junction when it opened from the Jurong Bus Interchange and some from the Teban Gardens Terminal. The bus interchange served Jurong West New Town, the Jurong Industrial Estate institutions in the west, including the Nanyang Technological University, for years, despite being in the area designated as Jurong Regional Centre. It was in contrast to the larger Boon Lay Bus Interchange serving these areas.
The intermediate bus interchange near the western end of JCube, surrounded by Jurong Town Hall Road, Jurong East Street 12, and Jurong Gateway Road, received the temporary bus interchange on December 6, 2020, and it will remain there at least until 2027. Integrated transportation includes Jurong East station of the Jurong Region Line, will build in its place, and the current temporary bus interchange will dismantle. Bus routes 78 and 79 will call at Blk 131 along Jurong Gateway Road due to a scarcity of parking spaces in the interim junction, while CW3 and CW4 will now stop at the Private pick-up/drop-off location along Venture Avenue. The following bus routes will avoid Jurong East Central (Blk 134) and Jurong Town Hall Road: 97, 97e, 197, and 333. (Jurong East Library).
The Jurong East neighbourhood is bound by Jurong Town Hall Road, Jurong East Street 12, Jurong Gateway Road, and Jurong East Central 1; and is home to the Jurong East Interim Bus Interchange. The interchange is a transport hub for commuters leaving Jurong East residential estates in the Penjuru and Toh Guan industrial areas. It connects with Jurong East MRT Station along the North South Line and East West Line and provides easy transfers between the rail network and the many bus services at the interchange. On December 6, 2020, the relocated Jurong East Bus Interchange became operational after leaving the initial temporary interchange. A combined entrance/exit that leads to a signalised intersection along Jurong Road used for vehicular access.
Facilities for Interchange
Improvements include more roomy boarding stations at each of the seven berths and sloped kerb edges to make it easier for passengers in wheelchairs to board, hailed by the LTA as advantageous to commuters and public transportation personnel. The risk of congestion in the interchange boarding berths reduces the bus berth availability system close to the bus park, which alerts bus captains when their boarding berths are open.
