Primary School

Anderson Primary School was formed in the year 2000 from a merger of three schools – Ang Mo Kio North Primary School, Hong Dao Primary School and Li Hua Primary School. Over the first seven years, the school has, under the leadership of its first Principal, Mr Lawrence Chong, established itself as a preferred school in Ang Mo Kio. Its positive public image built on strong partnerships with parents and the community as well as its established track record and co-curricular programmes enabled the school to attract a strong demand for places at all levels. Mr Martin Tan led the school for the next five years from 2007 – 2011, followed by Mrs Tan Wie Pin for the next seven years from 2012 – 2018.

Mayflower Primary School was established on 2 January 1979 with 56 classes, 77 teachers and 2,395 pupils. It was then located at 20 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and named after the old Mayflower Estate that once stood there. The school functioned in two sessions, sharing its premises with Ang Mo Kio Primary School. In July 1980 the school was officially opened by Mr Yeo Toon Chia, then Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio.

Chij St. Nicholas Girls’ School was established by the Sisters of the Infant Jesus near the Town Convent at Victoria Street on 16 January 1933 as a Chinese-medium primary school for girls. The school began with an enrolment of 40 pupils in two classes, Primary One and Primary Two. At that time the entire teaching staff consisted of only two people, the principal who taught English, and another teacher who served as a Chinese instructor.[1] At that time, the principal, Sister Francoise Lee, felt the need to cater to Chinese Catholic girls.[2] She pushed for the expansion of the Town Convent to include a Chinese school. That school was built on the former building complex of Hotel van Wijk, run by missionaries to provide education for daughters of Chinese-speaking families, including disadvantaged families and wealthy Chinese merchants alike.[3] The decision to purchase Hotel van Wijk was in part a preventive measure against moral corruption. The former building complex was a hotbed for prostitution activities, thus the purchase would indirectly reduce the such influence on the girls living in the convent.[4] Sister Francoise Lee led fundraising to make the purchase possible. However, the English section of the convent occupied the new building, while the Chinese section was relocated to the old buildings, citing reasons of a larger English population needing more space.[5] In 1941, the school expanded into a full school.

Ang Mo Kio Primary School was the first school to be built in Ang Mo Kio New Town which was being developed during the late seventies. For the first three months, the new Primary 1 pupils were housed in Dorset Primary School. The pupils moved into its premises at 22, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. They were joined by pupils and teachers from Jalan Kayu Primary School which closed down that year. Mr Oh Choon Eng was our first principal. On Friday, 12th October 1978, the school was officially declared open by Mr Yeo Toon Chia, then the Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio Constituency.

Jing Shan Primary School principle is to stand for the day-to-day endeavor to foster a positive school tone that is rich with care, respect, and discipline; be a safe and health-promoting school; and provide a vibrant and stimulating environment for learning and growth.

They provide the emphases and the directions to take when planning for student learning and development.

In addition to developing a curriculum experience that is coherent and progressive over 6 years, we ensure that every year of learning and development for the child constitutes a suite of undertakings that are age and developmentally appropriate. To this end, we see every student going through three stages of development at Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. At each stage, there is a school-based Learning Focus, namely “Grow and Be Present” at Lower School, “Strive and Be Centred” at Middle School and “Flourish and Be Grateful” at Upper School. Our students advance and grow steadily in their Learning Dispositions of Motivation, Appreciation, Resilience and Creativity and take steps towards the School Vision of “Thriving Explorers, Mindful Leaders”.

Secondary School

Presbyterian High School vision is to develop our students to be Promise-Keepers, Hope-Builders and Servant-Leaders. To this intent, the school places emphasis on nurturing and developing good character as well as harness the leadership potential in every child; inculcating in them a sense of gratitude and responsibility to the community and nation. To achieve our mission to develop “A Total Person Worthy of God and Man”, the school provides a holistic education that seeks to engage students to participate fully in CCA and Student Leadership programmes. The school provides a Christian environment where there is a strong culture of teamwork, learning, excellence, care, and self-discipline.

Yio Chu Kang Secondary School was founded in 1965, the school was the 61st one established by a newly independent Singapore, and one of two built that year. The school was an answer to requests made personally to PM Lee Kuan Yew by farmers when he visited the rural community of Yio Chu Kang. The original building was sited at the 11th milestone / 16 km Yio Chu Kang Road.

Officially opened by then Minister of Education Mr Ong Pang Boon, it started as an integrated English-Chinese stream school as part of government efforts to house two or more language streams under one administration and one principal. Thus, schools such as Yio Chu Kang Secondary School became a critical strategy in early nation-building to emphasize the importance of bilingual education and to increase the socialization of students from different language mediums.

Since then, the school has undergone four campus transformations, reflecting closely the growth and challenges of our nation, as well as the aspirations of her students and her community. The story of each campus revolution is a remarkable tale of the steadfast spirit of a school born of humble origins and the valiant efforts to survive and thrive in the face of enormous changes in Singapore’s education, economic and social landscape. In doing so, the school has remained true to her original ideals of Pursuit, Knowledge and Service.

Junior College

Anderson Serangoon Junior College s a junior college located in Yio Chu Kang, Singapore, opposite Yio Chu Kang MRT station, offering two-year pre-university courses leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level examinations. Anderson Serangoon Junior College (ASRJC) began in January 2019 and embodied the rich heritages of Anderson Junior College and Serangoon Junior College, two strong colleges that have developed and groomed thousands of students over a span of 65 years.

Polytechnic

Nanyang Polytechnic was established as an institution of higher learning in 1992, Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) academic schools offer quality education and training through more than 40 full-time diploma courses and common entry programs.

Nanyang Polytechnic also has a full suite of continuing education and training (CET) options for lifelong learning, ranging from specialist and advanced diplomas to SkillsFuture modules and courses. NYP’s Asian Culinary Institute and the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies are CET institutes set up in partnership with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) to champion and transform Singapore’s F&B and retail sectors respectively. A third NYP CET institute – the National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning – also set up in collaboration with SSG, will spearhead the development of progressive workplace learning strategies and programs for companies here.

University
