Mr Tan Hong Khoon founded Prime Supermarket in 1984 when the government ordered his father’s pig farming company to close owing to redevelopment plans in Punggol. The first food shop opened at King George’s Avenue. After a few years, the company grew into a grocery chain with its own house-brand merchandise. In 2016, Mahota Commune Houses, a mixed retail enterprise including a supermarket, was founded by Prime Group International for local and international projects. The grocer has also safeguarded the general welfare of its personnel by supporting and promoting healthy living. The old King George’s Avenue supermarket still stands.
