Guide to know about the Tai Seng Christian Church

The Yio Chu Kang Gospel Hall’s structure at 140 Yio Chu Kang gets acquired by Tai Seng Christian Church in 1989. The humble beginnings of Tai Seng Christian Church may be traced back to 1957 when Sister Zhong Yi’s music brought residents of the Tai Seng neighborhood together for missionary events. The Tai Seng Christian Church is situated today among a group of low-rise office and commercial structures. The church is a blue and white, one-story masonry building with a double-pitched roof. The building’s symmetrical design reflects its classical style. The building’s two prominent gable end walls get embellished with protruding column capitals. Because of Singapore’s humid climate, the church constructs high ceilings, large windows, and protective overhangs.

A Community-Oriented Church:

As of 2020, the independent family church hosts regular community-building events, including Christmas and Mid-Autumn Festival festivities and weekly bilingual services for its neighbors. The structure has housed a community church from Yio Chu Kang Gospel Hall to Tai Seng Christian Church.

The Legacies Survive:

Chew eventually stopped participating in economic ventures and could dedicate more time to church-related activities, such as gospel preaching in Mandarin. In the late 1980s, he sold his properties to private real estate developers. Despite this, Chew’s reputation endured, and a new street in the neighborhood was given the name Hong Lee Place in recognition of his store. The Yio Chu Kang Gospel Hall, another of Chew’s legacies, relocated to a new site at 242 Yio Chu Kang Road along Poh Huat Road in 1978. The English congregation of the Yio Chu Kang Chapel currently shares the premises.
