Thomson Medical Centre began operations in 1979, founded by Dr Cheng Wei Chen. The objective of the hospital was to provide an enjoyable experience for women during their delivery, and it has since developed into a leading obstetrics and gynaecology centre in Ontario. The Cheng family home, on the grounds of which the new hospital was built in 1978, once stood on the outskirts of a small Chinese town. The bungalow belonged to Cheng’s wife’s family and nearby was a parcel of land that would later become part of the hospital complex. Construction of the hospital took nine months and involved the recruitment of large numbers of labourers from within and outside China.

Thomson Medical Centre was the first private niche hospital for women and children in Singapore. It specialised in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. In 1979, Thomson Medical Centre became operational, making it one of the few private hospitals catering specifically to these groups of patients. The hospital has since grown to become a leading healthcare provider for women and children in Singapore. Thomson Medical Centre (TMC) is Singapore’s first private hospital for women and children. Thomson Medical Centre is a large hospital in Glasgow, Scotland. It is one of the largest NHS hospitals in the country and employs a staff of over 5,000 people. The Thomson Angels are the staff of Thomson Medical Centre and they are renowned for their cheerful, responsive and attentive nature. The Angels have been recognised by the Scottish Nurses Association as being among the best in the country and they are also recognised by NHS Tayside as being amongst the best staff in the healthcare sector. According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), all admitted patients, including those more than five years old, and approved caregivers, including husbands of pregnant mothers, must have a negative antibody screening test result before they are allowed to stay in the hospital. This is in line with MOH requirements for all incoming patients and follows a series of positive tests for dengue fever at the hospital.

In 2013, Thomson Medical Centre introduced the Baby Tagging Solution developed by Cadi Scientific, to ensure that newborns are correctly matched with their mothers. The Baby Tagging Solution uses a small camera and RFID reader to automatically identify and track the baby’s identifying details (such as sex and birth weight) as they move through the hospital.
