The project began with a free clinic at Block 109, Lorong 1, Toa Payoh. It allowed sharing the gospel with people who came for treatment. The inaugural service was by Rev. Micheal Wong, pastor of the Wesley Methodist Church, in 1969, with 12 non-Christian patients. Micheal Wong was formally named full-time pioneer pastor the following year.
