The Rev. William Oldham, a Tamil speaker, started working with the Anglo-Tamil School to reach out to the Tamils in 1885, the same year Methodism get founded in Singapore. The first target group for the work was migrant Tamil prisoners and their families.In 1887, the Rev. C W Underwood arrived from Ceylon and created the Tamil Methodist Society, which led to the Toa Payoh Tamil Methodist Church at Short Street. Through its outreach initiatives to the Tamil-speaking and Indian people over its first 125 years, TMC Short Street is the mother church of the other six Tamil Methodist congregations. The Batak Protestant Church (Huria Kristen Batak) has also called TMC Short Street home since 1980. The first Methodist Church in the area gets founded by TMC’s evangelistic outreach activity in Cha’a (Johore, Malaysia) in 1926.

Children’s Ministry:
To promote the spiritual growth of the parish’s young people by exposing them to God’s word and the love of Jesus Christ via fun educational opportunities.
Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF).Our mission at the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) is to make Christ known to young people, mentor them in their spiritual development, and prepare them for a life of serving Christ. Helping parents bring their teenagers up to be healthy adults is equally important.
Society of Christian Service for Women (WSCS):
WSCS actively encourages women in the Toa Payoh Tamil Methodist Church to love God and serve others while also assisting the female congregation in growing in their faith. The WSCS seeks to produce a generation of godly women who Christ and blessings in their homes, churches, and places of employment.
Formation & Nurture:
A disciple of Christ is a learner, and Christ values every believer. In a discipleship relationship, we take a position in Christ and adopt His attributes. He teaches us how to conduct our lives the way He would.
Evangelism:
We aim to promote the gospel and demonstrate the love of Christianity through our deeds of service. We approach unbelievers and show them God’s Love.
