INTRODUCTION TO ENG WAH GLOBAL

The Eng Wah Group, which was founded in 1946, is a Singapore and Malaysian conglomerate with interests in entertainment, real estate, hospitality, and leisure. WE Cinemas, Hotel Fort Canning, Jubilee Square, 321 Clementi, The Legends Fort Canning Park, and The Legends Golf & Country Resort are among the brands managed by the Group.

Milestones in the History of WE Cinemas

2002 – “Friends of Eng Wah,” the first on-line loyalty program in Singapore, is launched. Singapore’s first cinema to provide the SMS-a-movie service.

2003 – The first cinema outside of the United States to install a complete 2K Digital Cinema system. The first cinema in the world to show a complete 2K-enabled digital film commercially.

2004 – The first cinema in the world to run a complete 2K cinema.

2005 – Singapore’s first cinema to provide mobile ticketing. CIO Asia’s CIO 100 List ranked us among the top 100 Asian organizations.

2006 – SingPost’s 250 Self-service Automated Machines (S.A.M.) islandwide are used to launch the first cinema’s ticketing service. The Sunday Times SPBA Heritage Brand Award Winner for Best Service, Best Snack Bar, and Best Sound.

“SpiderMan 3” was one of the first films in the world to use 4K Digital Cinema technology. In May, the industry’s first personalised movie gift card is introduced. EW Cinemas is a major sponsor of the 2007 National Day Parade. EW Cinemas announces a one-of-a-kind fund-raising effort in Singapore, with monies collected via an auction of EW Movie Gift Cards created by the public. The Straits Times (ST) School Pocket Money Fund will benefit entirely from the earnings of an online charity auction launched on eBay Singapore.

EW Cinemas is the first cinema chain to endorse Singapore’s candidacy for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. EW Cinemas is a major sponsor of the 2008 National Day Parade. EW Cinemas is the first cinema in Singapore to show the digital 3D film “Bolt” on a commercial basis.

EW Cinemas is a Principal Partner of the 2009 National Day Parade.

2010 – Selected as one of Singapore’s “100 Singapore Icons,” a collection of logos, emblems, trademarks, and icons important to the country’s social history and visual culture. EW Cinemas is a major sponsor of the 2010 National Day Parade. Singapore Youth Olympic 2010 is an official supporter of EW Cinemas.

Eng Wah Cinemas is renamed WE Cinemas in 2011. WE Club is the new name for “Friends of Eng Wah.” WE Cinemas is a major sponsor of the 2011 National Day Parade.

2012 – WE Cinemas is a major sponsor of the National Day Parade.

WE Cinemas opens at 321 Clementi in 2015.

FIRST CLASS is a new film by WE Cinemas. Exceptional meal and movie experience

Fastix is a new service from WE Cinemas that allows you to enter the theater without having to buy a ticket.
