The Interchange

A transport hub for commuters coming into and leaving the city, Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange is a bus station situated in the residential town of Ang Mo Kio. It connects with Yio Chu Kang MRT Station along the North-South MRT Line and offers easy transfers between the rail network and the bus services. The interchange comprises a single vehicular concourse area with Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 as its entrance and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 as its exit.

There are pedestrian entrances and exits on every side of the interchange concourse. Transferring to nearby bus services that don’t stop at the interchange is simple due to the two bus stops along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6. Wheelchair access is available to every berth at this interchange.

Background History

A bus terminal near Yio Chu Kang MRT station gets constructed to serve a small number of bus services to reduce congestion in Ang Mo Kio Town Centre. And offer an alternative finishing point for buses heading north of the developing Ang Mo Kio New Town.

Although the MRT station debuted on November 7, 1987, Yio Chu Kang Bus Terminal debuted on December 13, 1987, when Trans-Island Bus Service (TIBS) launched the ad hoc Service SS1 to Yishun. This service would get discontinued the following year once the North-South Line reached Yishun. Over the ensuing years, the bus terminal would get several additional bus services.

Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange became the new name of the terminal in August 2013.

Upcoming Expansion

The Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange gets anticipated to grow over the upcoming years as LTA plans to transform it into a fully functional bus interchange with extra parking lots and commuter amenities.

Contract RD320 for the Expansion of Yio Chu Kang Bus Interchange, which the LTA issued on March 31 and closes on May 31, 2017, is a construction tender. Given this timeframe, the expansion won’t get realized for several years.

A currently undeveloped grassy area near Yio Chu Kang MRT Station gets where the new expansion is most likely to happen. It will probably get surrounded by Sungei Seletar Simpang Kiri, Yio Chu Kang MRT Station, and Ang Mo Kio Avenues 6, 9, and 18.
