Everything You Should Know About Yishun Bus Interchange

The Yishun Bus Interchange is a part of Northpoint City, situated in northern Singapore. The interchange is a part of the new, as of September 8, 2019, Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH). The previous bus interchange, which is now in use, was operational from August 23, 1987, to March 13, 2015. On March 14, 2015, operations get shifted to a temporary location for the construction of the Yishun Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), and they were finally shut down on September 7, 2019.

History

The initial Yishun Bus Interchange was constructed for S$2 million and inaugurated on August 23, 1987. It was Singapore’s first bus interchange created for the Trans-Island Bus Service. Due to the construction plans, the stores of Block 923 were shut down and later destroyed in 2012. Residents who were residing in Block 923 relocated to a different neighborhood. The land block containing Block 923, a demolished HDB apartment, and the former interchange gets released by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) on June 17, 2013. On June 28, 2013, the land became up for sale.

The Yishun Integrated Transport Hub, a new air-conditioned bus interchange built alongside the new Northpoint City integrated development, was announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on February 27, 2015. (YITH). 2019 is the expected opening year for the new interchange. By way of a brand-new underpass under Yishun Avenue 2, the Yishun Bus Interchange will get linked to the current Yishun MRT station.

The interchange was moved to a temporary location behind Northpoint Shopping Center across Yishun Central 1 on March 14, 2015, to make room for a future Integrated Transport Hub (ITH). On September 8, 2019, the ITH first opened.

Two entry and departure points—one at Yishun Central 1 and the other at Yishun Avenue 9—are available in the bus terminal’s single-vehicle concourse area. Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange features interchange offices and information boards that display bus arrival times with 21 bus parking bays and 27 double-decker bus parking bays. Additionally, there are berths for proper boarding and disembarking. There are restrooms, a canteen, and a covered waiting area at the bus station.
