From the Bukit Panjang Expressway (BKE), the Kranji Expressway in Singapore links to the Jurong West Expressway (PIE), traveling southwest. The expressway was built from 1990 to 1994, with construction beginning that year. In addition, the Kranji Expressway (KJE) is roughly 8 kilometers long, making it the second-shortest of all expressways (5.0 mi).
The announcement for the new highway came in 1990. Before concluding close to the Kranji neighborhood, it travels through the Jurong, Choa Chu Kang, and Bukit Panjang housing estates.

There are six flyovers in the KJE. Starting from Tengah Flyover, it connects Brickland Road at Lam San Flyover (Exit 5) and Choa Chu Kang Way at Choa Chu Kang West Flyover (Exit 4). And Choa Chu Kang Drive at Choa Chu Kang East Flyover (Exit 3), Woodlands Road at Yew Tee Flyover (Exit 2), and Bukit Timah Road at Gali Batu Flyover (Exit 1).
The particular asphalt compound that resembled tar as a surface material to reduce the danger of sliding was one of the KJE’s distinctive features. In 1994, KJE was one of the first few roads with this innovative surface, which cost S$6.1 million. Later, roads get equipped with this anti-skid function. On March 4, 1995, Lim Hng Kiang, the acting development minister, officially opened the Kranji Expressway.
Residents of Jurong, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, and Bukit Batok can access Kranji Expressway. One rail line, the North-South Line, also crosses the freeway. The Rail Corridor, formerly known as the KTM Railway, passes beneath the motorway.
There are three police centers (or stations) close to this road. The Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood Police Center, Nanyang Neighbourhood Police Center, and Jurong West region Police Center get located in Bukit Panjang, Jurong West, and respective parts of Singapore.
This road is far from any public hospital. The Woodlands Health Campus in Woodlands (U/C) and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital in Jurong East are the closest public hospitals.
