Eat At Newton
Newton is a dream. And, like heaven, this paradise is known by many names: Newton Circus, Newton Food Centre, and Newton Food Court are all for the same legendary food centre, officially known as Newton Food Centre. The food court, which features over 100 vendors, was even included in Crazy Rich Asian as Rachel Chu’s (Constance Wu) first dinner in Singapore. Newton is close to Orchard and is the ideal spot for cheap and delicious Singaporean food near the shopping centre.
At Newton Food Centre, make sure you get your hands on the classics. There’s nothing like the acidity of a calamansi lime with a punchy barbecued sambal stingray from Alliance Seafood or the crispy bite of a calamansi lime with a crispy mouthful sambal stingray from Alliance Seafood.
Drink At Newton
Newton Food Centre provides a one-of-a-kind eating experience, which for many includes post-dinner cocktails. Aside from the various drink shops in Newton that sell a variety of beers ranging from Tiger to Heineken to Chang, there are also some vendors dedicated solely to beer. Try one friendly seller’s excellent craft beer at OnTap at Newton.
However, post-dinner drinks do not always have to be alcoholic. The stalls at Newton specialise in traditional hawker beverages and bizarre diabetes-inducing concoctions that have emerged from stands over the years. 34 Lau Yang Fruit Juice is reported to be a fantastic sugar cane juice with lemon rendition. Outside of Newton Food Centre, there are numerous drink establishments.
