Learn More About The Bukit Timah Neighbourhood

Bukit Timah Neighbourhood is Singapore’s natural highest point and also the city’s longest road, stretching 25 kilometres from north to south. Its name means “tin hill” in Malay. The area’s history includes the location of the British troops’ final defensive stand against Japanese invaders before the colonial forces surrendered in 1942. Bukit Timah gets recognised in the early 1900s for staging some of the country’s most important horse races. Bukit Timah Neighbourhood Racecourse operated from 1933 until 1999 before being dismantled to make way for the Kranji Racecourse.

Shop:

Orchard Road, Singapore’s important retail district, is only a short walk away and will please even the most discerning shopper. When I think of Bukit Timah shopping, I think of furniture stores, home décor stores, and wooden and vintage furniture. Originals in Sime Darby Centre specialises in Indian woodwork, while Cluny Court is a retail mecca with more possibilities as you travel to Dempsey Hill, Gillmore Barracks, and Tanglin.

Parks and Gardens:

Because of Singapore’s tropical position, the nature reserve features one of the rich and most diversified natural systems. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is home to a diverse range of plant, animal, and insect species found in a humid tropical environment. In the meanwhile, MacRitchie Reservoir Park has something unique to offer. The Treetop Strolling Trails, a 250-meter aerial free-standing suspension bridge that spans MacRitchie’s two tallest peaks, allow you to enjoy the serenity of walking above lush greenery.
