CHIJ St. Theresa's Convent

All You Need To Know About The CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent
CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent was founded by Father Nicholas Barre, a Minim priest. He founded a program for underprivileged girls in Normandy, France, in 1962. He later founded the Infant Jesus Sisters order with the help of two ladies. They were dispatched to Penang by the Apostolic Vicar of Malaya, who thought they were too inexperienced to open a school in Singapore. In late 1852, the second set of sisters arrived in Penang. Pioneers on the Hill, In-Service, and Love is the theme for the 2015 CHIJ STC. To mark Singapore’s 50th anniversary, Secondary Three students went on a learning journey to the Changi War Museum, the Johore Battery, and the Sook Ching Massacre sites. On August 7, 2015, all CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent pioneers will invite to our school’s National Day Celebration and Student Leaders Investiture.
School Philosophy, Culture, and Ethos:
St. Theresa’s Convent, a Catholic mission school in Tanjong Pagar, was founded in 1933 to a pressing need for education for the daughters of underprivileged workers at the Tanjong Pagar Harbour, Hospital, and Railway. The CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent school commits to delivering a high-quality education to all students and focuses on needy pupils. Our pupils should equip with information, skills, and values for life, not merely for exams, according to the Theresian Brand of education. We believe that education should prepare the Theresian student to think beyond himself to help others in the community.
