Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Masjid Jamae (Chulia), Fairfield Methodist Church, Sri Mariamman Temple, and Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple are some of the nearby religious sites. Two underground levels and six entrances make up the station. The NEL station is 281 meters long (922 feet) and 25 meters deep (82 ft). The station is notably long, giving access to various nearby attractions. The station features Chinese calligraphy on the platforms and concourse floors and a mural on the concourse wall, alluding to the area’s “strong oriental culture.” The DTL station is 450 meters (1,480 feet) long, with plans for an underground retail link to connect it to the neighboring Telok Ayer station.
Civil Defense (CD) shelter
A Civil Defense (CD) shelter get established at the NEL station. It can hold at least 7,500 people and withstand bombings and chemical attacks. The primary equipment for the CD shelter’s functioning is installed on shock absorbers to prevent damage during a bombardment. There get backup generators to keep operations running if the shelter’s power supply is interrupted. The defense shelter includes decontamination chambers and dry toilets with collection bins for human waste.
Platforms
Wheelchair users can access the NEL and DTL platforms. Visually challenged passengers are guided around the station using a tactile system consisting of tiles with rounded or elongated elevated studs with specific routes connecting the station entrances to the platforms or between the lines. Wheelchair users will find it easier to enter the station because the fare gates are broader. Exit A to Pagoda Street has a transparent pavilion-style roof structure that enables natural light into the station while providing an uninterrupted view of the shophouses.
