History

Marina Bay Playground Land reclamation operations in Marina Bay began in 1969 to create 360 hectares of valuable beachfront land. The reclamation work finished in 1992, and the recovered ground now constitutes the Marina Centre and Marina South sectors.  By reclaiming land, the Inner/Outer Basins (anchorage areas for commercial and naval vessels), Telok Ayer Basin (now site of Asia Square Tower 1 and 2) and Inner Roads erased from the map.

 The Singapore River’s mouth now flows into the bay rather than directly into the sea. The URA’s long-term goals for the Marina Bay region express in the 1983 Master Plan, with the waterfront areas remaining open to the public.

Playing With Art
