The Outram Community Hospital was first announced by Minister for Health Mr. Gan Kim Yong during the Committee of Supply (COS) speech in 2012 as part of the Healthcare 2020 plan, which aims to increase the number of hospital beds in Singapore by 3,700 by 2020, with 1,800 being Community Hospital beds. The facility is on the grounds of the Singapore General Hospital. The hospital staged a ground-breaking ceremony on May 21, 2015, at which the real plans were revealed. There will be 550 beds, 500 of which will be for subacute patients and 50 for palliative care. The hospital officially opened on December 7, 2019, with the remainder of the facility set to open over the following three years.
