Shree Lakshminarayan Temple History

The origins of the North Indian population in Singapore go back to the early 20th century when Indian immigrants migrated from the northern states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Bengal, and Gujarat. They arrived as moneylenders, milkmen, and herders. People from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar get hired As security guards at homes, stores, and industries. Most of these Indians settled in Serangoon Road, the Rochor Canal, and other nearby areas.

North Indians used to attend services at the North Indian Hindu Association on Cuff Road before 1960 since they lacked a dedicated venue of worship. The North Indian neighborhood bought several homes in the 1960s and turned them into the Shree Lakshminarayan Temple. On April 24, 1969, the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Temple – Hinduism was deemed open. The temple serves as a haven for the spiritual principles, heritage, and culture of Sanatan Darm and Vedic Hinduism. It is a location for worship, devotion, love, serenity, and harmony.

The temple has been improving its infrastructure and offerings to serve the faithful. There is now a more improved and cozy location for worship for believers. Temples now play different roles than they formerly did. In addition to being a worship site, the temple is today where the Hindu community congregates to socialize and interact. It promotes healthy social ideals and satisfies the society’s cultural and spiritual demands.

Some Rules And Routines Of The Temple

• Be tidy and dressed respectfully before visiting the temple.
• Remove your bags, shoes, hat, and sunglasses.
• Keep the prayer hall completely silent.
• Don’t handle the offerings, Prashad, bhog, or prayer objects.
• The prayer room is a no-food, no-drink zone.
• The goddesses’ sanctuary is off-limits to devotees.
• Agarbattis and clay lamps (Diya) should not get lit to prevent fire hazards.
• Please be respectful to the priests and employees of the temple.
• The temple grounds strictly forbid both smoking and drinking.
• Donation box to be filled with cash donations
• No artifacts from temples may get removed without authorization.
• Electrical equipment, the sound system, etc., cannot be disturbed without consent.
