History

Before that, Singapore’s first underground bus interchange, the original Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange, built as part of the North-South MRT line’s Woodlands extension, opened its doors in 1996.

The Woodlands Bus Interchange was moved to a temporary site near Woodlands MRT Station on March 12 to make it possible for the junction to be upgraded to air conditioning and the building of an underpass to connect to the Thomson-East Coast MRT Line. The new MAN ND323F A95s were temporarily stored there while it was closed.

The COVID-19 control measures imposed by Malaysia and Singapore resulted in the suspension of the cross-border service 950 from March 18, 2020, to April 30, 2022, and the local service suspension 926 as of April 8, 2020.

Woodlands Bus Interchange Parking space

As the Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub, the improved interchange reopened on June 13, 2021. (WITH). Because there aren’t enough parking spaces in the WITH, service for routes 925/925M, 950, 961/961M, and 965 gets offered at the temporary interchange. Inside the Hub, a heritage gallery displaying the history of SMRT and Trans-Island buses gets recently opened.

Temporary Bus Interchange

CCECC Singapore Pte Ltd got the contract PT247 – Upgrading of Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange to perform the alterations necessary to convert the Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange to air conditioning and build a connection to the new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).

All bus routes serving the Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange get transferred to the Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange (TBI) on March 12, 2016, when a temporary bus interchange gets built near the Woodlands MRT station.

Woodlands Bus Interchange Parking

On June 13, 2021, Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub, the improved Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange, reopened. The 925/925M, 950, 961/961M, and 965 bus services would still run from the temporary interchange.

Since the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL-Land) announcement between Singapore and Malaysia, Transtar’s VTL-Land bus service has been operating out of Berth B5 at the temporary bus interchange since November 29, 2021. The service gets renamed Vaccinated Travel Bus Service (VTBS) after the Singaporean government abandoned all of its VTL plans in preparation for the April 1, 2022, openness of borders to all vaccinated people. As cross-border public bus services restarted on May 1, 2022, VTBS gets terminated.

Because of the east entrance road repair work, several bus routes were switched back to Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange in December 2021. For 962 and 964, Berth B2 is for 858 and 969, and Berth B3 is for 161 and 168. This agreement was in effect from December 12 through December 25, 2021.
