The Ang Mo Kio MRT station is an above-ground MRT station in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore North-South line. The station is connected to AMK Hub, Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange, and the Ang Mo Kio Town Centre through an underground corridor and located at the intersection of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 beside Ang Mo Kio Town Garden East. One of only three elevated MRT stations with a middle train track is Ang Mo Kio (the other ones being Tanah Merah and Jurong East MRT stations before upgrade under the Jurong East Modification Project additional platform and fourth train track).

About Ang Mo Kio MRT

The station is one of two serving the Ang Mo Kio MRT housing estate (the other being Yio Chu Kang station), and it serves as a transportation hub for Ang Mo Kio New Town inhabitants. Its the residential neighbourhoods surrounding Ang Mo Kio Town Centre (containing sections of Neighbourhoods 3, 4, and 5), nearby shopping complexes, community amenities, and schools. The Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange provides bus services to the estate’s many locations. By 2030, Ang Mo Kio station will have station number NS16CR11 and be an interchange station with the Cross Island Line (CRL).

History

The Provisional Mass Transit Authority extended the line to Yio Chu Kang in July 1983, and Phase 1A extended from Outram Park to Tiong Bahru, Redhill, Queenstown, Commonwealth, Buona Vista, and Clementi stations, alleviating the congestion at Ang Mo Kio. Under Contract 102, a viaduct connecting San Teng MRT station to Yio Chu Kang selected on June 12, 1984. The contract also stipulated that in 1985, the section of Ang Mo Kio Street 53 from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 would be permanently blocked and levelled for the railway installation on the ground level.

The intersection of the Cross Island Line

On January 25, 2019, the LTA announced that the proposed Cross Island line would include Ang Mo Kio station (CRL). The station of Phase 1 will have 12 stations between Aviation Park and Bright Hill schedule, to open in 2030.

Gammon Construction and Engineering Pte. Ltd – Bachy Soletanche Singapore Pte. Ltd Joint Venture granted a S$644 million contract design and construction of Ang Mo Kio CRL Station and accompanying tunnels on July 20, 2021. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2021 and end in the year 2030.

Platforms

Four elevated North South Line platforms in a double island platform design serve three lines through Ang Mo Kio station. For the safety of commuters, half-height Platform screen doors are installed at the platform edge and retrofitted Pro-Jet fans keep people. The station style is comparable to many older above-ground stations along with the Western sector of the East West Line, with a simple flat roof over the platform level supported by rows of columns. The concourse level reached through escalators, stairs, and lifts.

While regular NSL trains use the outermost platforms, Platforms C and D used to discharge passengers from terminating trains before being withdrawn to Bishan MRT.
