Assumption English School, one of the three components of Boys’ Town, was created in 1953 by Brother Vincent, a Gabrielite Brother. The school’s name at the time was Boys’ Town English School. Boys’ Town English School, a full-day, single-session school with classes ranging from Primary One to Secondary Four, was established in 1955. The AES School administered the first batch of students for the School Certificate Examination in 1955. The Secondary portion of CHIJ Bukit Timah joined with Boys’ Town English School in 1973, resulting in the formation of a co-educational Catholic mission school. In honour of our Lady, Mother Mary, Patroness of the Brothers of St Gabriel, the school gets renamed Assumption English School. The school quickly grew, and the school board decided in 1989 to modernizemodernisefulfil the buildings to fulfil the new millennium’s educational demands. In December 1992, the school’s Primary Section closed, and the pupils get transferred to St. Anthony’s Primary School. The school constructs under the PRIME plan from 2013 to 2015. Mr. Ng Chee Meng, Minister of Education (Schools), formally launched the new school building on July 7, 2017.
School Philosophy, Culture, and Ethos:
Assumption English School gets created by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel and gets supported by the government. The school is one of seven Gabrielite schools in Singapore, with many more in 33 countries across the globe. The Montfortian Education Charter, which serves as a guide to “create informed and harmonious citizens devoted to a just and brotherly world,” is adopted by the school. Assumption English School thinks that Education is a path of Self Discovery where students discover their skills, define their beliefs, and build their moral compass,’ the school’s philosophy states. The school fosters an environment that values and pushes our students to grow into capable leaders representing the Assumption Spirit of Character and Learning.
