History

CHIJ Ponggol was the school’s original name until 2001 when renamed CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity. It is one of Singapore’s eleven CHIJ schools located on Upper Serangoon Road, near the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Nativity. The institution was founded in 1957, celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017.

Rev. Mother St John’s love for children and desire to fulfil the educational needs of girls in the Ponggol area inspired CHIJ Ponggol. Rev. Mother St John, who was the Rev Mother Superior at the time, petitioned the Bishop of Malaya immediately consented to her request to establish a new Convent school in Punggol and donated the necessary land for CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity.

Co-Curricular Programs

This programme comprises activities, events, and learning experiences that complement what students learn in the academic curriculum in some way and are an element of our kids’ education. Students learn about their interests and abilities while also acquiring values and competencies that will equip them for a quickly changing world through these activities in CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity. .As friends and peers, learn, play, and grow together, fostering socio-emotional competencies and deepening their feeling of belonging, commitment, and duty to school, society, and nation.

The OLN 360 Program

The goal of the OLN 360 programme is to make it easier to deliver the OLN Outcomes by widening our students’ holistic curriculum and learning domains. It will benefit our girls’ overall growth. All P3 to P6 children attend OLN 360 on Fridays during the school day from 7.45 a.m. to 9.15 a.m. Our children will be able to explore and succeed in various activities, apply to learn outside of the classroom, develop their Learning Dispositions, and grow in our school’s GRACIA ideals through this programme. Our pupils’ comprehensive curriculum and learning domains broaden the four modules.

Activities for Enrichment

The school offers a variety of brief activities that allow a student to pursue her passions. These include the following: Before morning assembly, there are talks and activities, such as speeches by NLB to promote reading, performances, and science snippets. The goal is to make learning more enjoyable for students while also connecting their studies to current events.

Back to School programmes, for example, are developed for a specific purpose.

They prepare to transition to a secondary school and the P6 Post-Exam programme, which reinforces the school’s character development programme and develops their social-emotional abilities as they prepare to return for a new academic year.

Framework for the OLN

A student-centred, values-driven CCA programme is at the heart of the Framework. Our CCA programme is based on our school ideals and tailored to our student’s interests and abilities. Graciousness, Responsibility, Appreciation, Compassion, Integrity, and Adaptability are all qualities found in a person (GRACIA)

The circle depicts our students’ well-rounded and holistic development across the five areas of physical, aesthetic, socio-moral, leadership, and cognitive development. Our students can gain and display 21st Century Competencies through prolonged and active involvement in CCAs, allowing them to take advantage of the abundant opportunities of the new digital age while maintaining a strong Singapore heartbeat.
