All You Need To Know About Eunos MRT

The East-West Line’s Eunos MRT Station (EW7) is an above-ground station (EWL). It gets located near the intersection of Sims Avenue and Jalan Eunos, on the outskirts of the Geylang East planning subzone. It still has considerable Malay influences, with streets named after the Muslim community and national leaders. The Eunos MRT station is in Geylang, Singapore, and is an above-ground MRT station on the East-West MRT Line. It’s just adjacent to the Eunos Bus Station.

Eunos MRT station serves the surrounding Eunos Industrial Estate and light business sectors along Changi Road – and inhabitants of Eunos, Geylang Serai, Joo Chiat, Telok Kurau, and sections of Kembangan. Eunos Bus Interchange provides bus services that link to various estate sections.

Design

The station gets designed with a traditional Malay roof structure (Atap Minangkabau)and a shape similar to the stations in the western part of the East-West Line (Chinese Garden to Boon Lay stations) and the northern part of the North-South Line (Bukit Batok to Khatib stations) except for Woodlands. Because Eunos Bus Interchange is adjacent to Geylang Serai and the Malay Village, it is crucial to give the region a feeling of identity.

History:

On December 17, 1985, Okumura/Oh Teck Thye – granted Contract 303 – the building of a viaduct from Paya Lebar station to Kembangan station, comprising Eunos station and Kembangan station. Construction started in January 1986 and ended on November 4, 1989.

It was built without platform screen doors, as were most above-ground stations along the East-West Line. Half-height Platform screen doors got installed on October 5, 2010, and operations began on December 16, 2010. This station, which opened on September 11, 2012, beside Queenstown MRT station, is equipped with high-volume, low-speed fans. A privacy screen was installed from Eunos Road 5 to Eunos Road 2 in January 2017 and finished in July 2017.

Concourse

A ticket concourse gets placed on the ground level of the station. It has faregates for automatic fee collection and offers access between the station’s paid and unpaid sectors, including at least one bidirectional wide-swinging gate for passengers in wheelchairs, carrying heavy objects, or those traveling with prams.

Commuters can buy tickets for single or many travels through General Ticketing Machines, like TransitLink Add Value Machines, accept contactless card transactions. The station office serves as a Passenger Service Centre, where commuters may inquire about travel options. This station also has a TransitLink Ticket Office, which is open from 12:00 pm to 7:30 pm on weekdays and 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on weekends. Sundays and holidays are closed.
