Quick Facts

Alan Tay, Seetoh Kum Loon, Gwen Tan, and Berlin Lee founded Formwerkz Architects in Singapore in 2004. The practice is essentially characterized and driven by their shared interest in the restoration of primal human-nature ties and the revival of reciprocal human relationships. Projects become vehicles for designing events, or more accurately, the circumstances that might promote more active involvement between man and his surroundings.

Alan Tay, Gwen Tan, and Seetoh KL were chosen to be exhibited in AUDE’s “20under45: The Next Generation” exhibition in 2010, which aimed to raise awareness and appreciation of design quality in Singapore. The Apartment House was named one of the “Best of the Modern” in Monocle’s Singapore Survey, alongside Paul Rudolph’s Colonnade and I M Pei’s OCBC Bank. The Singapore Institute of Architecture (SIA) has given Formwerkz several awards, including the Building of the Year and Design Awards; the International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Urban Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies; the International Design Awards (IDA); the Design For Asia Award by the Hong Kong Design Centre; and the Dubai Cityscape Design Award.

IF STUDIO

Firm iF is an interior design studio founded in 2015 and directed by principle designer Gwen Tan – co-founder of Formwerkz Architects. It was developed with more than 20 years of architectural and interior design experience. We are able to construct unique interior experiences geared to embrace, enhance, and celebrate our customers’ opulent lives because we have a deep grasp of luxury and expertise in hospitality design.

Some of the more unusual venues for our works for homes and homes away from home include new-age farm stays, city getaways, re-imagined historic courtyard houses, resort beach villas, and villas in national parks. We’ve also developed residences on ships, refurbished caravans to meet modern luxury requirements, built treehouses in the French hills, and even designed a solitary villa on an island overlooking the French Riviera.

We can design for things that our customers don’t conceive about, and even offer a twist to design challenges that we can anticipate, thanks to our considerable expertise and experience dealing with a wide range of clients.

Our strength comes from our multinational team of designers that have a wide range of design skills, including branding, business consulting, and user experience. We look at designs in their whole to guarantee that they have a beneficial influence on individuals who contact with them, in addition to creating attractive places.

AFTERNAUT

Berlin Lee, Chew Kok Yong, and Chong Zhewei founded Afternaut as a think-tank to generate influence via intentional design. In 2017, the company was transformed into a multidisciplinary design agency with the same goals.

Afternaut, backed by the Formwerkz collective, has spatial powers much beyond their own.

The combination of physical and digital surroundings, we feel, is critical to achieving holistic design.
