History

When the Circle Line (CCL) Stages 4 and 5 stations were announced in 2003, the station was announced as Holland. Woh Hup (Pte) Ltd–Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd–Alpine Mayreder Bau GmbH (WH-STEC-AM) Joint Venture got granted the contract for the building of Holland station in 2004 for S$399.91 million (US$236.6 million). The 8.25-kilometer (5.13-mile) dug tunnels necessitated the employment of Earth pressure balance (EPB) machines with a diameter of 6.35 meters (20.8 feet). Holland Village got chosen as the station’s name in 2005. Due to the proximity of residential structures around the station, careful excavation gets required during station construction. The building walls got carefully monitored for deflection and soil settlement. During the station’s development, residents and business owners got kept informed. The station opened as part of the CCL expansion to HarbourFront station on October 8, 2011.

Security checks were conducted at the station on July 29, 2018, as part of a combined disaster preparedness exercise by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and train operator SMRT. After Newton Station, this is the second disaster preparedness drill at a public transportation node in 2018. Drills – designed to put existing response methods to the test while also maintaining alertness for speedier and more efficient reactions in an emergency.

Art in Motion:

The culture and heartbeat of Holland Village get reflected in this artwork. Holland V attracts a varied mixture of expatriates, youngsters, and locals. It features hip eateries’ charm, lively sections, and tranquil retreats.

The fabled Windmill is reminiscent of Holland, although this ‘Holland’ gets named after Hugh Holland, an early inhabitant and amateur performer. Its design gets inspired by an old aircraft safety card – gets chosen for its color scheme and clean lines to fit the station’s décor. The finished artwork, created through sketching, collage, and digital modification, has a very vintage current vibe.
