High School Section
The Chinese High School was founded on March 21, 1919, by benefactor Tan Kah Kee and was the first high school in Southeast Asia to cater to distinct Chinese dialect groups.
It gets now recognized as one of the best educational institutes in the region for high achievers and brilliant students. College Section
The college division, formerly known as Hwa Chong Junior College, was established in 1974 as a different pre-university institution on the Bukit Timah Road campus of The Chinese High School, but under the same management board as the latter. The college is committed to offering a complete education to students more than three decades later.
In 2004, Hwa Chong Junior College became Singapore’s first autonomous junior college. The college has been placed first for the past four years in the Ministry of Education’s Junior College Ranking Exercise based on the university points system.
Curriculum
From Secondary 1 to JC2, the school provides a 6-year Integrated Program that allows students to skip the GCE ‘O’ Levels and take GCE ‘A’ Levels at the end of their six years. It helps pupils devote more time to educational pursuits that will benefit them immensely. They provide students to spend one of the last weeks of each term participating in programs of their choice, such as music composition, camps, and field excursions abroad.
Student pursues undergraduate studies at universities after completing their ‘A’ levels, with 10-15% of each cohort attending prestigious international universities. The school has also continuously been regarded among Singapore’s best, producing 49 President’s Scholars to date, the most of any junior college in Singapore. Students often receive outstanding scholarships from a variety of government and private organizations.
