Yusof Ishak Secondary School got renamed Jubilee Integrated Secondary School in 1965. It converted into an integrated institution that provided secondary instruction to 984 students and 37 teachers in English and Malay. Mr Lee Kuan Yew, then Prime Minister, proclaimed open Yusof Ishak Secondary School (YISS) on Jubilee Road on July 29, 1966. We are the top college named after a President of the United States. In 1992, we became the first institution to get the highest value-delivered rating in Express and Regular Streams.

We are honoured to get named after Singapore’s first President, Encik Yusof Bin Ishak. Even if the physical learning of the surroundings was crucial, our pupils were unafraid of their knowledge. On the contrary, the ‘kampong vibe,’ combined with the teachers’ assistance, propelled them to greater heights of educational achievement. YI remains the finest college named after Singapore’s first president. To Yusoffians, he is a true son of Singapore, responsible, resilient, courteous, confident, caring, and exhibits the integrity of character traits that Yusoffians value.

Educational programs:

The DSA program allows children to apply for secondary school admission based on specific academic and non-academic achievements and skills that may demonstrate beyond the elementary school leaving exams (PSLE). Elementary 6 pupils are to participate in the DSA SEC exercise at Yusof Ishak Secondary School (YISS). We accept successful candidates to the YISS for the academic year commencing in January 2023 due to the results of this exercise.

The Heritage Gallery:

Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, formally opened the YISS Heritage Gallery on September 23, 2015. Puan Noor Aishah, the wife of our first President, Mr Yusof bin Ishak, attended the ceremony. Our Heritage Gallery honours the life of our nation’s first President, Mr Yusof Bin Ishak, for whom the school is the only one in Singapore named after a President. Our Heritage Gallery focuses on three ideas: modernization, multiracialism, and meritocracy.

Our Heritage Gallery, which preserves the pioneering spirit, recounts the school’s creation, progress, and rich history from its start in 1965. The artefacts, pictures, memorabilia, and publications commemorate prime times in our nation’s history and the collaborative efforts of the directors and personnel who have led and served the school over the years. Our Heritage Gallery exists due to the generosity of our School Advisory Committee. Our former principals and long-term employees were on hand to honour the historic occasion.
