Methods Used To Learn In West Grove Primary School

The school first opened its doors in 2003. West Grove Primary School celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2010. In 2014, West Grove Primary created its Learning for Life Program (LLP) in the Arts, and in 2016, it transitioned to Single-Session. West Grove Primary School strives to establish an environment that allows students to learn from the past, appreciate the present, and plan for the future.

ST(EP)s

It is a programme for students in grades P1 and P2 of West Grove Primary School. The goal of programme is to instil in students a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them at a young age. Exposure and exploration of various science themes related to the English stellar units introduced. Interest activities like teacher demonstrations, hands-on activities, games and quizzes engage the students.

E2K

The E2K Science Programme Singapore is a science enrichment programme for students who show interest in science and have the skills to do so. It runs by instructors who have been trained in the E2K pedagogy and work in schools. Pupils participate in scientific research using sophisticated science ideas as part of the programme. Its goal is to get students involved in scientific research they can develop the habits, attitudes, and dispositions that scientists have to obtain essential 21st-century skills like critical and imaginative thinking and effective communication.

Completion of MRL’s Monthly Readership

MRL will compile a report on the number of books borrowed by each class and every student once a month. Certificates will present to the student who has the borrowing rate for each level. In 2017, MRL introduced a new award to recognise students who have made the most progress in the number of books they have read in the previous two months. It encourages reluctant readers to read for long periods. In 2018, OWL (Our Wonderful Library) and the READ@School initiative will bring Book Bugs II to Primary 2 and Primary 3 to encourage students to read more and more extensively. To redeem, students must create their insect trivia and borrow two books from our school library.

Reading Ambassadors in the Schools

The School Reading Ambassadors chose from a group of students. They are one of West Grove’s student leaders. These pupils participated in MRL teachers’ School Reading Ambassador Workshops. They will be pioneering the reading trend and play a key role in encouraging West Grovians to read. Weekly during morning assembly, the school reading ambassadors will provide a book review, and selected students will also represent the school by telling stories at the community library. Some of the school reading ambassadors also spent time at Jurong West Public Library in 2016 and 2017 preparing book displays and shelf talkers.

Media Literacy & CyberWellness

The positive well-being of Internet users refers to as Cyber Wellness (CW). It entails a grasp of online behaviour knowledge of how to be safe in cyberspace. CW dedicates to assisting students in being responsible digital learners. Students should treat themselves and others with respect when traversing cyberspace. Students can also be a positive peer influence by using technology for collaboration, learning, and productivity, advocating for constructive technology use for the community’s benefit.
