Interpretation (1965-1981):

The phrases “pursuit,” “knowledge,” and “service” are in both English and Chinese on the shield-shaped emblem. These phrases symbolize the school’s goal to continually progress, using their leisure time to broaden their knowledge, practice their abilities, and be valuable citizens. A burning torch shining with three fingers loaded with flame is a prime aspect of the symbol, reflecting the enduring and inspiring quality of the three principles of search, knowledge, and service. The school name is printed in both languages to convey that it is a standard school in both English and Chinese.

History:

The Yio Chu Kang Secondary School was the 61st to be created by a newly independent Singapore and one of just two that year. The school was in response to farmers’ pleas to Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew while he was touring the rural town of Yio Chu Kang. The original structure was placed at Yio Chu Kang Road Milestone 11/16 km. It began as an integrated Anglo-Chinese comprehensive school, officially launched by the then-Minister of Education, Mr. Ong Pang Boon, as part of the government’s endeavor to accommodate two or more language courses under one administration and headmaster.

Thus, institutions such as Yio Chu Kang High School played an important role in early nation-building by emphasizing the necessity of bilingual education and promoting the socialization of students from varied linguistic backgrounds. Since then, the school has gone through four-campus modifications that reflect our nation’s progress and difficulties and the goals of its students and community. The Story of Every Campus Revolution is a unique account of a school’s unwavering spirit, which developed from humble beginnings and heroic efforts to survive and grow in the face of significant changes in Singapore’s educational, economic, and social landscape. The institution has stayed faithful to its founding principles of research, knowledge, and service. Yio Chu Kang reflects the spirit of pioneers who strive passionately to enhance life while being flexible to adapt to changing requirements in the educational programs to stay relevant through four major campus modifications in 1965, 1982, 2001, and 2018.
